A recent review of 'Flanked By Women and Pumpkns'
http://www.traumbaum.de/ru/component/content/article/67388-pas-flanked-by-women-and-pumpkins.html
Review From Traumbaum: "Brooklyn’s PAS need little introduction, particularly if you make an initial judgement based on the album’s title. Expect the strange and be rewarded. PAS thrive, if not solely exist on the experimental and convention is abandoned when it comes to track structures and themes. But, it would be irresponsible to suggest that such avant-garde output isn't listenable. From the off, the odd loops, sound effects and noises are stimulating, deliberately designed to trigger a range of sensations both emotionally and physically. Some of the noises can be industrial or organic and as an art house installation, it’s incredibly effective. Beneath it all though, is an anarchic sense of mischievousness – 70’s and 80’s new experimentalism is written large throughout and the disturbing threads of new age alternative electronic sounds of Cabaret Voltaire, Suicide and Nitzer Ebb may not be prevalent, but they are here in spirit. ‘Inner Ear Echo Imbalance’ sounds like a cunning combination of ACR and The Prodigy spun backwards, but it is astoundingly efficient in stimulating the symptoms of the track title. The rousing cinematic closure of “Incredible Day For Natives”, sets itself apart from the sound track so far, but it is built on exactly the same formula and techniques of the preceding numbers. Long live experimentation and the destruction of all recognised musical structures ! and along with PAS lets celebrate the bending of all barriers. "

Reviews:
A nice review of 'Flanked By Women and Pumpkins', on Alrealon Musique.
http://terrascope.co.uk/Reviews/Rumbles_January_13.htm
PAS are a quartet of exploratory musicians whose aim is to make musical collages from a wide variety of sources: instruments, found sounds, natural recordings. The music is amorphous, ever-changing, occasionally offputting, sometimes glorious. As the band themselves admit, the music here is more by way of soundscape than song, and this is certainly true of the opening three cuts.'Volker Goes To Spain' however achieves a notable impact through its choice of synth sounds and natural recordings - dark and eerie in the extreme - while 'Vacationing Beat' brings crickets to an otherworldly drone and some very glitchy beats. I also liked 'Sonic Sleighride Through Coalmines' which is perhaps the track on the album that most conjures up definite mental images; a kind of gothic railway ride underground. 'The Dramatic Exit' concludes events with piano, synths and mysterious background sounds. As with all music like this, the key question is, has the band achieved an original sound through its constituent parts? PAS certainly have, and there are more hits than misses on this menagerie of electro-acoustic trips.

Portrait of a Soul: Performance Nite
Oct 15, 2011 - 5PM
NURTUREart Gallery, 910 Grand Street, Brooklyn NY Phone:718-782-775
Portrait of a Soul is a religious exhibition hoping to depict the moment when spiritual energy is transmitted through visual artwork — articulately laying bare the lyrical moment in which god and artist are engaged in the same creative act. These performances will be a companion to the show, aural instead of visual but constructed with the same interest in spiritual transmission.

http://www.beatport.com/#release/reconstruction/321496
RELEASE DATE
2011-01-15
LABEL Alrealon Music
CATALOG #ALRN023
Goal: To have Alrealon artists submit tracks to PAS and have PAS sculpt the Alrealon artists tracks into reconstructed soundscapes. Each artist track will have it's own unique mixing techinique. For example: A drum loop may go for a five minute segment with PAS playing along it for five minutes BUT another track can be broken down into segments creating a collage with PAS samples. Yet another track can be stripped down to a certain frequency changing completely but influencing how PAS compliments the track. The goal is to create a complete variety of a release with outside influences challenging the current PAS formula ad in return PAS will try to reach a unique sound for each artist. Theme: To get away from ego and concentrate on the concept of unity and positive creative influence., reconstructing ones regular music routines and letting go. Thoughts (music) can be developed into different directions where they would never particularly go. http://www.myspace.com/pas-music
